Beautiful bird and nature lovers paradise.
Pros: It was in a beautiful spot, very peaceful and surrounded by nature. The Tent rooms where large , comfortable, clean and well equipped with nice furniture and a large veranda The manager and the staff where lovely, Harri couldn't have been more helpful, he went out of his way to make us feel welcome. The food was good and tasty home cooking. I enjoyed getting out on the bicycle provided and exploring the local highlights. The swim in the nearby pond was refreshing too !
Cons: I would have liked to have paddle on the beautiful river however it is not currently allowed.

Location, location, location - a beautiful and secluded stay on the Periyar River
Pros: This property is on a beautiful, secluded location along the Periyar River. It is such a treat to be able to listen to the jungle noises and bird song at all hours of the day and not hear road noise or see other guesthouses. Aside from the location, two highlights of this experience were the staff and the food! Staff were very kind and thoughtful, making our stay very enjoyable. The buffet meals were delicious and filling. We also appreciated the willingness of the team to provide vegetarian options for us. The masala chai tea served every morning was particularly lovely! Thank you for making our stay special.
Cons: The main reason we chose Amritara Riverside Resort was our interest in kayaking, which is prominently featured on the website. It was not until we arrived that we were told kayaking was not possible, due to temporary government restrictions. This was disappointing and could have been communicated in advance. The resort was much more interested in getting our full payment for the room in advance than sharing this information. While we really enjoyed our stay, more proactive communication that kayaking was not possible would have allowed us to make an informed decision about our options.

Pros: Lovely location, surrounded by nature and birdsong. Rooms were comfy. Air con and fan worked well. Stayed full board -no choice with food but I enjoyed it. Nice to have bikes to cycle around area. Kayaks can be used when the river is safe.
Cons: Nothing really. Some confusion over taxi costs but it was sorted. Maybe ask if veg or non veg option to save some food waste.

Peaceful place to switch off
Pros: Lovely little spot by the river to relax. Tents had Aircon and wooden floors. Not sure I'd use luxury to describe them, but I think the term is used to compare with local standards. Clean enough and slept well. Quiet location and restful. They provided a nice little dusk walk to see the bats and night critters.
Cons: WiFi not great and only in communal area but not a problem if you want to switch off from it all. Restaurant hours a bit restrictive and meals expensive but tasty and provided a complimentary breakfast pack up for an early birdwatching start. Very quiet when we stayed so glad they provided meal services as there's nothing around. Bit of a distance to get to the best bird watching spots (around 30 mins).

Peaceful,relaxing and close to nature
Pros: Fantastic location on the edge of the THATTEKAD BIRD RESERVE with with views across the river and interesting walks from the camp We were expecting tents but these were more like a small bungalow with comfy beds, good aircon and separate bathrooms The bird watching from the “tents” was amazing Food freshly cooked and tasty Surash the manager was extremely helpful and arranged trips into the bird reserve and looked after us very well There were free bikes to borrow Surash took us on a twilight walk locally when we saw fireflys, birds and bats
Cons: We were the only guests for 2 of our 3 nights

Beautiful tranquil location
Pros: Wonderful tranquil location next to Periyar River with verandahs on most tents to watch the wildlife and enjoy splendid views. Made most welcome by the manager Mr Suresh and all his staff. A guided evening nature walk by Mr Suresh was a real highlight. We also enjoyed the buffet dinner and breakfast. Bikes available to explore by ourselves a bonus.
Cons: Nothing.

This place deserves more visitors
Pros: The location, the 'tents', the nicely organised evening walk (with bird watching) and last but not least, the manager. Too bad there are so few visitors. This place deserves more.
Cons: The diner. It was OK, but there was no vegetarian alternative for the chicken. In South-India!

Pros: The location on the river and the very helpful Suresh
Cons: The rooms do have aircon and hot water but they are not luxury and need updating or the place needs renaming.
