Windermere River House

Wonderful in parts with a few shortcomings.

Pros: The garden was superb. The walk from the rooms to the dining area was beautiful. The bedroom was tastefully decorated with a huge bathroom / dressing room. The staff were helpful especially John, the son of the owner.

Cons: Unless you were a bird enthusiast there was nothing else to do.The food was pretty bland with no means of making it more Keralan like. With so few clients it would be easy to provide a short menu to suit different tastes. There was insufficient shade at the edge of the lovely swimming pool.

A place that exceeded all our expectations

Pros: It’s an incredible place, a small piece of paradise and certainly the most beautiful property we stayed in India during our stay. The manager of the hotel is very helpful and kind. The birding tour is a highlight and the birding guide is very knowledgeable.

Pros: The staff were absolutely incredible and could not have done more to make us feel welcome. They were also extremely knowledgeable about the local area and keen to share this with us. The nature walk was enjoyable and informative and we would really recommend our excellent guide provided by the hotel. Finally when we left we were treated to an added benefit of a close up encounter with an elephant. We really could not have asked for me.

A True Gem

Pros: This was a totally luxurious experience. The facilities were just beautiful - from the room and balcony in the main house to the stunning gardens to the swimming pool and restaurant down by the river. The food we were treated to was probably the best we had in our entire 3 weeks in Kerala. John, the manager and a super lovely and gracious man, looked after us in every respect. If you are looking for a break in a peaceful place, this is it. I thought it was superb value for money and would stay again in a heartbeat.

Very relaxing, very welcoming, beautiful property

Pros: We loved the property, the grounds and the swimming pool. This was a secluded luxurious property - if you like bird watching you will see so many different breeds all on your door step! We loved the hospitality, Bino was an amazing host sharing stories with us and always checking how we were. Huge shout out to Jyothis our amazing nature tour guide - we would highly recommend the walking tour she taught us so much about the surrounding nature and animals! We would also highly recommend the cycling to the river and suspension bridge for sunset and Danesh our bird guide for the early morning tour was so passionate and made the experience really special for us!

A relaxing peaceful stay learning about nature and walking with the most wonderful, knowledgeable guide.

Pros: This a most peaceful comfortable place surrounded by nature, beautiful plants, trees, flowers, birds singing, lizards and next to a nature reserve. The guided walks with Jyothis, the naturalist, were a highlight. The food was delicious.

Magnificent and Peaceful

Pros: This was our first destination in Kerala and we wish we had been able to stay longer than the single night our schedule allowed. It’s a totally serene and private environment since it only has 5 rooms. The food was absolutely incredible and the staff and owner all lovely, and generous with their time. Would love to return one day.

One of a kind!

Pros: A unique place. The wonderful walk through the garden to the river, a garden full of birds, the helpful staff. We walked to the suspension bridge nearby with local guide Danesh and that was magical too. Unforgettable.
